TELEHEALTH

Our telehealth services provide convenient, secure access to mental health care across NC & AL. Through secure video sessions, we can connect virtually while maintaining the same thoughtful, personalized approach I would bring to in-person care.

Why Telemental Health Competence Matters

Telehealth is more than delivering therapy through a screen. Telehealth introduces unique considerations into the therapeutic process, such as connectivity issues, concerns about being overheard, and distractions.

Nobody wants to spend a virtual therapy session staring at the top of their provider’s head, wondering whether they are being heard or feeling like they are talking to a screen instead of a person.

That is why it is important that mental health providers expand their competencies in telehealth practice (APA, 2024) in order to deliver safe, ethical, and effective mental health services through technology.

While telehealth offers many benefits, it is not a right fit for everyone. Telehealth may be a good fit for you if the following circumstances are true:

Outpatient Level of Care

Your concerns can be safely and effectively addressed through outpatient psychotherapy rather than requiring a higher level of care or more intensive, in-person support.

Safety Risk

Your current mental and emotional state, level of impairment, and interpersonal and environmental circumstances, including domestic violence or other forms of abuse, present low to no clinically significant risk, and you have access to appropriate supports should your risk levels change.

Technological Access

You have reliable access to a device and the internet that allow you to participate in sessions, and you are reasonably comfortable using the technology required for an effective telehealth experience.

Private & Safe Space

You can identify a quiet, private space where you can be present and engaged in the therapeutic process without distractions, interruptions, or competing responsibilities (e.g., driving, supervising children), and without worrying about others overhearing you or monitoring your communication.

Not sure if telehealth is right for you? That’s okay. We will talk through your options during the intake process and determine what approach best fits your needs.

What Telehealth Sessions Are Like

After you schedule your first appointment, your therapist will send you a link to complete the intake paperwork and access the client portal, where you can access all telehealth appointments.

Sessions will take place through a secure video platform, known as THERAPlatform

You will need to be located in your home in the state (NC or AL) where your therapist is licensed to provide services

For Successful Telehealth Sessions, Clients Should Have…

  1. Access to a tablet, laptop, or computer with a camera and a microphone

  2. Picture ID to verify identity

  3. A stable and secure Internet connection

  4. Access to a phone in case the connection is lost

  5. Private, stationary, and comfortable space to conduct therapy

  6. Headphones or earbuds, if helpful

Telehealth FAQ’s

Are telehealth sessions the same as in-person sessions?

Yes, telehealth and in-person appointments are the same in length and structure. The primary difference is that, for telehealth, you will verify your identity during the first appointment and complete a brief environmental check before each appointment to ensure you are in a private setting and that no one else is present with you in the room.

Where can I participate in a telehealth session?

You can participate in a telehealth session from any location where you can maintain privacy and cofidentiality and where you can be easily located if an emergency occurs. A quiet, private room in your home is often the best option. Before beginning your session, consider whether you will be able to speak openly without being overheard or interrupted, and whether you and your location could be clearly identified if emergency assistance were ever needed. If you are unsure whether a particular location is appropriate for your session, please discuss it with your therapist beforehand.

What happens if my internet connection fails?

If you lose your connection during a session, your therapist will first wait for you to reconnect through the telehealth platform. If you are unable to reconnect, your therapist will call you on your cell phone for additional troubleshooting. If contact cannot be re-established within 10 minutes, the session will be rescheduled for another day.

What states do you provide telehealth services in?

Telehealth services are currently provided to clients located in AL & NC, consistent with applicable licensure and telehealth requirements. Because telehealth regulations are based in part on where you are physically located at the time of your session, please let your therapist know if you will be participating from a different state.

If you have other questions before scheduling, please reach out, and I will be happy to help you understand what to expect and determine the next steps.
