Welcome

Virtual Therapy for Adults in North Carolina & Alabama

Lotus Counseling & Consulting provides compassionate, trauma-informed virtual therapy for adults and couples across North Carolina and Alabama, with particular experience supporting helping professionals, educators, college students, adoptees, foster care alumni, and adoptive and foster parents.

Who I Work With

Life can be complicated, especially when you carry responsibilities, experiences, or expectations that others may not fully understand. Individual and couples therapy can give you a space to step out of survival mode, understand yourself more deeply, and develop practical ways to move forward.

You deserve a therapeutic experience that sees the whole you!

An Integrative Approach to Therapy

There is not one right way to heal, and therapy should not feel like a one-size-fits-all process. I approach therapy from a warm, conversational, collaborative, and trauma-informed perspective, focusing on insight, skills, and compassion.

Insight

I focus on understanding the patterns, experiences, beliefs, and relationships that have shaped you

Skills

I believe in developing practical strategies to navigate emotions, relationships, stress, and everyday challenges

Compassion

I am committed to helping you learn to approach yourself and your experiences with greater understanding rather than judgment

I draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches and tailor our work to you, your experiences, and what you hope to change. Alongside familiar approaches such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy, I also draw on approaches that offer different ways to understand your experiences and create change.

Narrative Therapy

  • Explore the stories you have developed about yourself and your life
  • Make space to separate yourself from the problems you are facing
  • Discover possibilities for a different story

Compassion-Focused Therapy

  • Develop a kinder relationship with yourself
  • Address self-criticism, shame, or feelings of not being"good enough"

Somatic Psychotherapy

  • Pay attention to what happens in your body
  • Develop greater awareness of physical responses, tension, and patterns connected to stress or trauma

I do not tell my clients what they need to do or how they should feel. I utilize Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help them explore and resolve their experiences, perspectives, and ideas, and to motivate them to implement the changes they want to see in their life. At the same time, I believe work in therapy is most useful when clients can take it with them beyond the therapy room, which is why I incorporate practical tools, strategies, and skills my clients can use between sessions.

Why Lotus Counseling & Consulting?

The Therapist Who Understands From Both Sides

Natasha Smith

As a social worker, therapist, educator, former child welfare professional, and adoptee, I bring both professional expertise and lived experience to my work.

I understand the weight of caring for others, navigating complex systems, pursuing an advanced degree, or trying to make sense of life moments that have shaped who you are. My lived experience has given me depth of empathy and insight into the complexities of people's experiences that cannot be fully learned from textbooks or clinical practice alone. Yet, my extensive clinical education, training, and licensure give me the expertise and competence to remain objective, client-centered, and committed to ethical, evidence-based practice.

You don't have to choose between a therapist who understands the clinical research and one who understands the human experience. My goal is to bring both into the room while keeping you and your journey at the center of our work. I see you as the expert on your own life, and my role is to offer clinical expertise, warmth, curiosity, compassion, and practical tools while honoring your experiences, values, and goals.
